Beyoncé Knowles is 36 years of age, and her birthday is September 4, 1981. She was born and raised in Houston, TX. Her full name is Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter, she broke in the music business when she was young with her group Destiny’s Child. In the 2000s, there was no other pop stars as poised, as polished, or as generally fierce as Beyoncé Knowles. In 1998, the group issued its debut, Destiny's Child, which featured the hit “No, No, No” But it was 1999's The Writing's on the Wall  that broke the charts , along with hit song “Bug a Boo” the group  definitively continued their success  with “Say My Name,”  which made Number One, in year 2000 on the billboard charts. “The definitive kiss-off song won two Grammys and featured a standout performance by Beyoncé, whose skittering, rhythmic, and hip-hop-derived approach to melody would help shift the entire landscape of R&B singing.” After the group Destiny’s Child, pop star Beyoncé Knowles went solo in 2003 in between Destiny's Child third album and its fourth and final one. Beyoncé released her solo album Dangerously in Love.  Ms. Knowles also displayed other talents, starring in multiple movies, including Obsessed, Carmen: A Hip-Hopera, and also the remaking of “Lion King”.  She is the queen of R&B and paved the way for many other female stars. Beyoncé has more than 20 movies, 30 Grammy’s awards and her net-worth is $350 million according to Forbes Magazine's “America's Richest Self-Made women list.” In May of last year, the publication also reported that her husband Jay z is worth $810 million, meaning their net worth combined has exceeded $1 billion-dollar mark at $1.16 billion.  Beyoncé and Jay-z will be doing another tour together called PART II ON THE RUN. This year at the Coachella Beyoncé Knowles breaks news with her amazing performance, driving the media crazy. She donated $400,000 dollars to four historically black colleges to show her gratitude, a way of thanking them for being a part of the movement in which she will always be crowned queen.

Honoring the legendary Maya Angelou 90th  Birthday "Still I Rise"
By: Maya Angelou

Google celebrates Dr. Maya Angelou’s 90th birthday on April 4, 2018 by honoring some of her best poetry, including her number one poem “Still I Rise”, by creating a Doodle video on google. The Video features her own voice along with other celebrities whose lives she has inspired.

Maya Angelou was one the greatest poets of all time because she was wise and unique. Maya Angelou was a public figure, and she was awarded Honorary Doctorates by more than fifty major universities and colleges around the world. One of Maya Angelou’s principal messages was one of inclusiveness; despite our ethnic, religious and cultural differences, we are more alike than unalike. During the celebration of the great Maya Angelou’s birthday, her daughter said, “she saw all our differences in language, orientation and perspective as an indication of the richness of our imagination and creativity, and as elements of our nature that we should celebrate. “In 1981 Ms. Angelou was nominated for several important awards and read a poem written for the occasion at President Clinton’s inauguration. One of my favorite quotes from Maya Angelou’s are “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” Another important quote states, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” These two quotes have helped me overcome difficulties throughout my life. She inspires me to be a better me every day. I will never forget the warmness of her voice and the realness of her walk. She was a very brave woman who believed in world peace, that we are one and we should stick together regardless of race. April 4, 1968, which is the day of Maya Angelou’s birthday, was the same day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and he was a good friend. She was a public figure for all women who believe in themselves, despite the situation in their lives. She wanted women around the world to open their minds and see that they were worth more than they thought. She was a role model for the old, the young, and the new generation. Maya Angelou will always be remembered as one of the greatest poets in the world because she paved the way for many of us.

-Reality TV Star Kirk Frost “REVEALED” that he is the father.

Last week, on Love & Hip-hop Atlanta Kirk Frost finally tells his wife Rasheeda the truth, that he is

the father of a former stripper Jasmine Washington, now that it’s out he wanted to have a sit down

with Jasmine to stop her from popping up randomly at Rasheeda shop PRESSED.

It’s been proven that Jasmine’s son, Kannon, is indeed Kirk’s son. Rasheeda and Kirk are currently separated, and she’s sick and tired of the news, bothering her to the point that she’s seriously considering leaving her husband Kirk’s life for good.  Rasheeda knew deep down in her gut that the baby was Kirk’s, the truth confirmed by the DNA tests still leaves Rasheeda feeling rocked, that Kirk had another woman’s baby. Rasheeda feels betrayal and hurt that her husband for 19 years not only cheated but messed around and lied about it. Now that the truth about Jasmine and Kirk is out, Rasheeda is beside herself with anger. She’s disappointed and strongly considering leaving Kirk, but because they have kids together, she doesn’t know what to do next. Before the baby kirk and Rasheeda were having a difficult time before Kirk cheated with Jasmine and he said, “At the time, he needed someone to talk to. I guess jasmine was the only one who was there at the time of their problems.” Rasheeda and Kirk have been married since 1999, and in addition to being her husband, Kirk has worked as Rasheeda’s career manager. Their ups and downs have been showcased on their VH1 reality show for a while now, and although we don’t know what’s going to happen with their marriage in the future we just hope they can work something out for the kids. And despite Jasmine being wrong for doing what she did, they should still be open to giving her a chance to redeem herself and all her wrong doings. It’s not just her fault it’s mostly Kirks because he’s a married man.  I hope the two can work something out sometimes in situation like this it’s better to just agree to disagree, and the only reason Rasheeda is still married to Kirk Frost is because of the kids other then that she said she would’ve been left.

-Students of Marjory  Stoneman Douglas High School Returns to School 2 Weeks After Massive Shooting

By: Terry Renna

A massive shooting occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on sweetheart’s day known as Valentine’s day, which wasn’t sweet at all. There were Seventeen people murdered and seventeen more were wounded the world's deadliest school massacre of the year.

Students and faculty returned to classes 2 weeks after the massive shooting that occurred on February 14,2018, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. "It’s just really hard to think about," David Hogg, a senior who has become one of the more outspoken survivors, told NBC News on Tuesday. "Imagine getting in a plane crash and having to get back on the same plane again and again and again and being expected to learn and act like nothing’s wrong." David Hogg and others are being strong enough for the lives that were taken that Wednesday. The shooting Left families with tears, emotions, pain and disbelief. The 17-year-old student Hogg, said “because of the lack of legislative action on the school safety and gun control, literally nothing’s changed except that 17 people are dead.”  How can they make students and Parents feel safe about attending Stoneman Douglas High School? On Tuesday February 21 Gov. Rick Scott announced that “they will be make a $500 investment in school safety and mental health as part of their plan of action.” Turning the school into a prison is a little too much for students to handle because they just witnessed a shooting.  It’s ok to enforce the rules and make the environment safer for students, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for the state police to be wondering around the campus with armed weapons despite the tragedy that happened. I still don’t agree with guns on any school campus. Because of safety, it’s ok to have campus police officers patrol outside of the school.  The football team at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High form a community walk together before a vigil to honor the victims of the mass shooting at their school in Parkland, Florida on Feb 15, 2018. The police department of the state, also paid their respects to support the students, parents of all the victims of the school shooting.

-The Quad and the Inside of the Culture-rich Georgia A&M

By:

The Quad is a recently developed show that depicts a fictional historically black university in the state of Georgia (Georgia A&M) that has a very scandalous inter-working between the president of the college, the band director, and of course the students. Despite the good ratings that the show has received in the past two years, the show has also gotten a lot of backlash.

Some people, like the longtime president of Hampton University, William Harvey, believe that the show representation will lead people to think that HBCU’s are based primarily around marching bands, marijuana, sex, and alcohol, along with misplaced priorities and no standards of conduct. Almost all colleges and universities vary, but the scandal going on and the life of freshmen that is portrayed in the show can easily be related to any other university, which is why the viewers will not think only HBCU’s are subject to this type of atmosphere and behavior. I do understand Harvey’s perspective because of his position at a major HBCU. He is only trying to prohibit any more negative connotations that may arise, but as a current student all I see when I watch the show is the culture that separates HBCU’s from other colleges and universities.
By:WXIA Staff
No matter what HBCU you visit, when you step onto the campus, there will be an overwhelming pride and spirit running throughout the campus, and that is because of the hope that HBCU’s have given black people. In fact, I made a direct correlation between Georgia A&M and Lane College; the potential that the students had and the strength of the faculty that helped keep the school going reminded me of my peers and higher ups.
I also made a personal connection to the characters that came from a rough childhood and continued to push through and make it to college. These little details in the show are what connects its audience and is what separates historically black colleges/universities from the predominantly white universities.
Overall, The Quad is portraying typical struggles that some freshmen college students may go through, as well as the ethical struggles that new faculty and staff may face while working at an university. It is not limiting the nature of a college/university to only HBCU’s. I urge people to tune into the show to get a sense of what any college may be like as well as the spirit of a HBCU.

-The Reflection of Black History

A month for African Americans to reflect on how much history we made from the civil wars to the great leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr (1929 – 1968) – “King was a pivotal figure in the non-violent civil rights movement.” During the 1950s and 1960s, he sought to improve race relations and overturn discrimination in American society. He is remembered for his powerful speeches which sought to bring about a united society” where race did not act as a barrier. He seen a dream that all whites and blacks couldn’t see that color shouldn’t matter because we all was born the same way because we all are humans and we only serve one God and he created us equal.
Ms. Rosa Parks (1913 – 2005) Instrumental in the US civil rights movement of the 1950s and 60s. “It was Parks who began an influential boycott of segregated buses in 1955. “Parks  wouldn’t give up her to a white man to sit down and she stated to the bus driver that she’s tire she’s been working all day so as she refuses to give up her sit they arrested her she also said “she was fed up with how Negros where getting treated and there should be a stop to racism and segregation. Growing up knowing that the color of my skin is a threat and that I can’t do what the next race can do as a black man I have to work ten times harder than the white man because the color of my skin and even though we have freedom of speech and we have equal rights.
It just like we still don’t have freedom we still have segregation , Police brutality, a president that don’t respect nobody not even his own race he’s only for the wealthy people and he trying to make America great again instead of doing that he’s making enemies with people from different countries. Our first official Black US President Barack Obama of African origin. “Obama served two terms as President and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.”

Despite Barack Obama and his mistakes he made when he was president he was a good man he cared about everybody’s well-being whether black or white he cared about poor, bullies, gangs, thugs, etc. you know it he did what he could do and that’s so much one person can do if we as people put our pride aside we will have a great country again but in this world people want to be the man. Black history is for us to express and be us and make more history together like creating new businesses and making our community’s better and stop the black on black crimes the black culture needs to take back what mankind stole from us which is our integrity.

                                The Movie Detroit- Injustices

The Movie Detroit faces segregation and police brutality against the race of African- American people. In the beginning of the movie the law enforcement came to lock all who was there and who was responsible for having illegal things inside of the night club that wasn’t allowed to be open and they took them in for substances such as guns, gambling, drugs.

There were two black cops who was under cover I believe who set them up they we’re charge with having liquor, drugs Etc. inside the juke-jaunt. The city of Detroit wanted to take back their city because it was  no control by the city police nor the government they sent the army because it was a threat of staplers killing off city police  so the city of Detroit started riots in the south side of Detroit and people were getting killed they was stealing groceries, tv’s anything they could get their hands on it was 1967 and blacks were still getting treated like they were slaves.
Throughout the movie it we’re like five men that had dream of becoming stars of Detroit Mo-Town records they had big dreams of being rich one day. They also were getting ready to perform one night but couldn’t because it wasn’t safe for people to be out because the city was full of riots and that it was too dangerous for them to be out so late, so they shut the show down so the group splits up to go home.
As they split up two of the  African American men couldn’t make it home so they decided to get a room that looked like a house and met these two white women after meeting the white women the two went to someone else room which we’re full of other black men they begins to talk about what’s going on in the city and how they could stop the riots, save their people from getting kill from the city of Detroit police so one of the African American men had a toy gun and was pretending to act out as the white police officers and how they act when they see black people as a threat as they continues to pretends one of the black men pulls out the fake gun and shoot one of his friends everybody in the room was scared and shock after all of that it was a prank to scare the white women and the two other African American men off so they could leave.
They left the man that had the gun decided to mess with the law enforcement so as he continues to shoot the gun they were spotted by the city police before you know it the Detroit police was questioning them to see if anyone was going to confess who was shooting at the police didn’t nobody wanted to talk they all was scared the city of Detroit police killed three innocent black men and wasn’t charge with nothing that’s shows you how much they cared enough about African American people in the 60s.
